Business Storytelling

Step 1: Inspire connection by showing how your vision aligns with your client’s purpose.

STOP READING.

No, really. Stop.

Because that’s what your readers are doing.

Every time you use those words you So. Badly. Want. To. Use. (without explaining what they mean) … you lose a pair of eyes on your page.

You know what I’m talking about.
Purpose. Vision.
Inspiring. Meaningful.
Optimize. Connection.

They’re vague. They’re high-level. They’re cliches. And cliches? Are expected. And boring. They don’t make us feel anything (except maybe exasperation).

And guess what?

No feelings, no sales.

What does work is telling a story.

It can be your story. It can be the story of your ideal client. But it needs to have detail that is true to how your ideal client sees the world.

No one wakes up in the morning thinking, “If only my motivation were aligned with my vision.” They think, “I could run… or I could eat a croissant.” Or, “I’m here. My running clothes are in the drawer over there… maybe later.”

No one looks in the mirror and thinks to herself, “I’m a busy suburban mom.” She thinks, “Okay, after I make sandwiches for the kids, I need to find the cap to Sophia’s water bottle, get her cleats for this afternoon’s game, and make sure Jack can still pick up the kids today after his appointment.” She thinks, “Johnny was trying to tell me something tonight. I don’t remember if I asked him if he was okay. God, I hope his teacher’s paying attention better than I am.”

I’m a writer with a social science and math background, a personal nexus combining a curiosity about people, a love of storytelling, and a need to ask questions and get the details just right.

When we work together, we’ll go into depth on both your story and ideal client’s story. We’ll find where they overlap. And then we’ll craft a story for your business that will make the right people want to read. To keep reading. And then to click. To keep in touch. To sign up for your newsletter. To want to work with you.
